Good British food, great wine and a fantastic location
By Country & Town House
If you’ve ever been to Odiham, it’s worth it just to drive down the broad thoroughfare through the heart of the small market town whose roots go back to Saxon times. The Bel and Dragon lies slap bang in the middle of the high street, opened just a year ago by Joel Cadbury – his sixth pub, all of which aim to offer good British food, great wine and a fantastic location, together with value for money. This timber-clad former coach house scores high on every count. After an aperitif in one of the cosy bar rooms put yourselves in the capable hands of ex Gordon Ramsay protege Ronnie Kimbugwe, who serves up hearty staples such as English veal bolognese with homemade parsley pappardelle and roasted suckling pig with crispy crackling and spiced apple. A nice touch is that house wines are served by a magnum, but you’re only billed for what your drink.
