The day is Thursday and the month is November. The place is Bel & The Dragon. The occasion is special and a handful of wine-loving friends are joining you. Your waitress passes you our comprehensive Cellar List. You order a bottle of 2011 Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge 1er Cru`Morgeot`and one of your friends says ‘Oh, I prefer the 2009 Les Fiefs de Lagrange. Do you have any?’ Another adds ‘Can we try the 2010 Château Talbot Connétable?’

Typically, you would expect this scenario to set you back several hundred £s but not anymore. At Bel & The Dragon, we believe that good wine should be accessible to all. Thursday 10th November – 2011 Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge 1er Cru, Domaine Marc Morey, Cote de Beaune, £33 / bottle

The Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru ‘Morgeot’ parcel of vines lies to the south, where the red soils favour Pinot Noir. Its 50-year-old vines produce one of the best local red Burgundies. With flavours of redcurrant & black fruits and a hint of oak, this harmonious wine pairs perfectly with our Hampshire Partridge with Braised Red Cabbage & Game Chips.


Thursday 17th November – 2009 Les Fiefs de Lagrange, 2ème Cru Classé, £33 / bottle

Les Fiefs de Lagrange has consistently been seen as one of the best second wines from Bordeaux and since it accounts for the lion’s share of the estate’s production, it has understandably been the château’s calling card for a long time. Share a bottle with our West Country Rib of Beef, Vine Tomatoes & Roast Garlic and summer will be a long distant memory.


Thursday 24th November – 2010 Château Talbot Connétable, St. Julien – £33 / bottle

Connétable de Talbot 2010 is a well-loved second wine of Château Talbot. It brings subtle notes of liquorice, cinnamon and smoke to the palate and we just love it paired with our Roasted Suckling Pig which comes armoured with Crispy Crackling, Spiced Apple Chutney & Thyme & Duck Fat Roasted Potatoes.
