JOIN US FOR AN OPERATIC EXTRAVAGANZA
Whether you are a seasoned opera lover or new to the art we have a treat in store for you this summer.
Join us on Thursday 2 September when we will be delighting you with a thrilling spectacular from Rogue Opera, taking centre stage in our garden with a unique musical production that weaves a modern story, with new original dialogue, through operas big tunes for an evening of great entertainment.
During this operatic extravaganza you will meet some of opera’s most famous characters including Carmen (the Popular One), Mimi (the Good Girl), Escamillo (the Alpha Male) and Rodolfo (the Complicated One) reinvented as characters including a beautician who started an Etsy shop during lockdown and a mixed martial arts YouTube star, as they navigate their way through the pitfalls of their lives and relationships in a quest to change themselves to find true love, enjoying along the way, the simple things in life including good wine and company – and what better place to do it than a pub garden!
This outdoor performance, set in the convivial location of The Red Lion, throws off the formalities of the traditional opera setting and immerses the audience in an informal and completely unique experience. With the audience close enough to the performers to feel the vibration of every note and within arm’s reach of the bar, there is no better way to while away a summer evening.
Founded in 2017, Rogue Opera is a touring operative company offering a different, vibrant and dynamic take on the grandeur, elaborate sets and period costumes of traditional productions and is passionate about bringing top-class performances to diverse spaces and communities. Their talented cast and creative team are all experienced professionals with backgrounds including BBC singers, Longborough Festival Opera, Royal Opera House Chorus, ENO and Glyndebourne.
We are delighted to be partnering with them, after 15 months of ‘in real life’ performances having been put on hold to bring you their latest production in our beautiful new garden and terrace.
So if your bonkers for Bizet or passionate about Puchini, ‘Carmen’ join us for a spectacular of opera’s big tunes; the tear-jerkers, the crowd-pleasers and, of course, the drinking songs – for an evening to remember – it would be a Traviata-sty to miss it!
