An Evening With Steve Backshall & Helen Glover in aid of the World Land Trust
8th May 2017 by
Please join us at Bel & The Dragon Cookham for a very special supper in aid of the World Land Trust, as we invite you to spend the evening with world renowned naturalist and television personality Steve Backshall and his wife Olympic Champion Helen Glover MBE.
Steve is an adventurer, conservationist, television presenter and author with a profound passion for the natural world. His shows such as Deadly 60 and Fierce, often focus on some of the planet’s most fearsome wildlife. He is admired and adored by adults and children alike. Helen is undoubtedly one of our greatest sportswomen and has been the No.1 female rower in the world since 2015, is a triple-World Champion and two-time Olympic Champion.
In 2016, Steve was invited to become a Patron of the World Land Trust. The World Land Trust (WLT) works to protect some of the world’s most biodiverse and threatened habitats acre by acre.
In April this year the couple kayaked 125 miles in 22 hours and 50 minutes non-stop from Devizes in Wiltshire to the Houses of Parliament in Westminster in a classic DW race. They raced to raise funds to protect a section of rainforest in Malaysian Borneo and have already exceeded their initial target of £100,000 towards the £250,000 Saving Kinabatangan appeal. There is still a long way to go before this forest is saved from being cut down to make way for oil palm plantations and safeguard the wealth of threatened wildlife found there, such as the Proboscis Monkey, Bornean Pygmy Elephant, the Bornean Orang-utan and Sunda Pangolin.
Our Group Head Chef Ronnie Kimbugwe will be preparing a delicious supper and £30 from each ticket will go directly to the World Land Trust’s very important campaign. All ages very welcome!
