On Sunday 12th March we hosted our Cheltenham Festival Preview at Bel & The Dragon Kingsclere. We were joined by 80 racing enthusiasts keen to get their hands on some expert inside knowledge and tips on the eve of the biggest week in the jumps racing calendar.

The panel, which sold itself to our guests was made up of Nico de Boinville, Andrew Balding, Kieran O Sullivan & Chris Bonner. Nico has already 15 Cheltenham winners including The Gold Cup in 2015 (he also happens to be the retained Jockey for one of the most successful English trainers of The Cheltenham Festival), Andrew trains and breeds some of the finest flat horses in the country whilst Kieran and Chris brought a wealth of knowledge from their racing careers.

Pens at the ready the panel worked their way through the daily race cards, horse and jockey names being mentioned left, right and centre in the hope that the panel may reveal some valuable inside knowledge. After two hours (on the race card that is!) all of our guests and panel sat down to enjoy a great supper of Organic Hampshire Roast Chicken, Thyme & Duck Fat Roast Potatoes with Sugar Snaps, Petits Pois & Spring Onion. Nico however had to resist temptation in order to maintain his weight prior to the racing, so he must be confident of riding some winners!

We flew through the second session where a few more horses were either given a worryingly confident tick next to their name or in some cases a resounding vote of no confidence and a line through their name. The evening was rounded off with a raffle for some fantastic prizes including some rather special signed sporting memorabilia.

The evening wasn’t just about the racing and we were delighted to raise just shy of £2000 for the Lewis Moody Foundation.
